OU eyes Innovative University scheme

OU eyes Innovative University scheme We plan to get Rs 60 crore in 12th plan: VC Osmania University set its eyes on getting more funds from University Grants Commission (UGC) under Innovative University scheme, launched recently. Under this programme, there is a possibility of getting from Rs 25 crores to Rs 100 crores under various projects. As the University has got the UPE (University Potential for Excellence) status under UGC, there’s every possibility to get funds under Innovative scheme as well, provided it undertakes some novel projects in different disciplines. According to Vice Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana, the university administration is on the move and will do the required study to be part of this scheme. Under the scheme, the UGC invites proposals from Universities on Innovative Teaching, Educational programmes; Innovative Research Programmes; and Organistional Innovations for financial support during the 12th Plan.
Growth projected to hit decade’s lowest at 5% India’s economic growth rate this fiscal is estimated to be sharply lower at 5 per cent, lowest in a decade, on account of poor performance of manufacturing, agriculture and services sector. This estimate by CSO is drastically lower than what has been projected thus far by the government and the RBI. “The growth in GDP (Gross Domestic Product) during 2012-13 is estimated at 5 per cent as compared to a growth rate of 6.2 per cent in 2011-12,” according to the Advanced Estimates released on Thursday by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO). In 2002-03, the GDP had grown at 4 per cent. Since then the Indian economy has been expanding at over 6 per cent, the highest rate being 9.6 per cent in 2006-07. The CSO’s advance estimate lowered the growth in agriculture and allied activities to 1.8 per cent in 2012-13, compared to 3.6 per cent 2011-12. Manufacturing growth is also expected to drop to 1.9 per cent in this fiscal, from 2.7 per cent last year. The CSO’s GDP growth projection is a lower than the 5.5 per cent forecast made by the Reserve Bank in its quarterly monetary policy review last week.

Top Ten Web Designer Job Skills

Top Ten Web Designer Job Skills

Whether you are just starting out as a Web designer or Web developer or are looking to become one, there are skills you need to know to be successful. The following list of technical skills is a list of the skills you need to be a good Web designer. They are listed in importance to getting a job as a Web designer, although some may be in higher demand than others. The list includes information about the skill, where to learn more about it, training resources, and whether it's more useful to a Web designer or a Web developer.

1. HTML
HTML is the most important thing a Web designer or Web developer can learn. Even if you plan on using WYSIWYG editors for most of your career, knowing HTML will give you an understanding of how the Web works so that your designs will be more effective. HTML is imperative to both Web designers and Web developers. Even Web designers who don't plan to do much work outside of a WYSIWYG editor should learn HTML so that they know the basis of their Web pages.

2. CSS
After HTML, CSS is the most important language Web designers can learn. It is what powers the designs and determines how a page will look. CSS is imperative to Web designers. If you don't know CSS you won't be able to design cutting edge websites. CSS is useful to Web developers, but not as important. Web developers who know CSS will be able to make their applications interact more effectively with the design.

3. Design Sense
Having a good sense of design is important for Web designers. There is a lot more to it than simply knowing which colors you like. You should be aware of the elements of design as well as the basic design principles. My Weekly Web Design Class teaches design principles as they relate to Web design.

Web designers must know design. Web developers do not need this skill, unless they are working as a freelancer.

4. JavaScript and Ajax
JavaScript is the first interactive element of a website and Web developers should be comfortable in JavaScript before they learn any other languages. Once you understand how JavaScript connects with your website, then you can use it to extend applications and create Ajax websites.Web designers don't need to learn JavaScript. Web developers should learn JavaScript.

5. PHP, ASP, Java, Perl, or C++
Programming Web pages starts with the language you use. There are many more options than the ones I list above, but these are some of the most popular and sought after. PHP is easily the leader, and if you choose only one language to learn, it should be PHP.

Web designers don't need to learn a programming language. Web developers must learn at least one and the more you know well, the more employable you will be.

6. MySQL Database
Learning how to build and maintain a database is essential to most Web applications. MySQL is the most popular database on the Web, but learning Access or SQL or another database will be helpful. Web designers don't need to learn databases. Web developers would find knowing some database administration helpful.

7. Flash
Flash brings animation and vector graphics to Web pages. It can be used by both Web designers and Web developers to create interesting sites. Web designers can learn Flash to round out their design and graphics knowledge. Web developers can learn Flash (and ActionScript) to round out their programming knowledge.

8. SEO
Search engine optimization, or SEO, is useful for anyone building websites. SEO is affected by the way the HTML is written, the image quality and content as well as many other things. Both Web designers and Web developers will have a more desirable resume if they know SEO.

9. Web Server Administration
Knowing at least a little about the Web server your website is running on can help you solve problems and make your sites run better. Most Web designers feel they can ignore the server, but if you know how the server responds to things then you can build a better site.

Web designers don't need to know how to administer a server, but could benefit from knowing simple things like shell access. Web developers should learn more about the server so that they can troubleshoot their scripts and programs.

10. Project Management
Project management is a critical job skill for nearly anyone. By knowing how to manage a project, you can help keep it on track and that will endear you to every manager you work with. Both Web designers and Web developers will benefit from knowing project management.

If you are not too confident about your English language skills, here are top tips that will help you gain more confidence

If you are not too confident about your English language skills, here are top tips that will help you gain more confidence:

1.Read good English books- Reading always helps. You may have read this almost everywhere, but it deserves another mention. Pick up books that interest you. In the beginning, you will be slow while reading the books. However, as you keep adding books to your library, you will start improving.

2.Learn 2 new words everyday- Make it a point to learn two new words every day. Read newspapers and magazines and encircle the words you don’t know the meaning of. Look up their meanings in the dictionary and try using them in a sentence.

3.Converse in English with your friends and family- You may be shy speaking in English in front of others. But you can always make mistakes in front of your family members and friends. Converse with them in English as much as you can. Slowly, you will start building confidence.

4.Listen to English language CDs- There are English language MP3s available in the market. Buy some of these and listen to them. They will help you get the right pronunciation of words.

5.Try and sing along English songs- You may not like listening to English songs. However, listening to English songs is a fun way to improve your English language skills. As you listen to them, try to decipher the lyrics and sing along.

6.Make mistakes- Do not be afraid to make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. In fact, you actually learn from your mistakes. When you fumble while speaking, or commit a grammatical error while writing, there will be people who will help you out. And you always tend to remember mistakes that happen in front of people.

7.Think in English- Another innovative way to improve your English language skills. When you are thinking something, try to think in English. Phrase sentences yourself, and if possible, write them down too.

8.Translate your Hindi newspaper- Most people who are not comfortable with English, read Hindi newspapers or newspapers in their native language. Try and translate one article everyday in English. Once you translate, get it checked by somebody. Mark your mistakes and try not to repeat them the next time.

9.Don’t go after fancy words- English is not about using big words. In fact, unless you are an author, big words are not going to get you anywhere. Try not to fret too much about difficult words. Focus on the basics.

10.Chat in English- We all have some sort of a Messenger on our phone, the most popular being Whatsapp. When you are chatting with your friend over the phone or online, try to do that in English. It helps.

Hate speech: Owaisi is back, to appear before police today

Hate speech: Owaisi is back, to appear before police today

MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, booked for allegedly delivering a hate speech against a particular community, returned to India from London on Monday morning and is likely to appear before police later in the day, even as fresh complaints against him poured in for the same.

“He (Owaisi) will appear before the police tomorrow (Monday),” a senior police officer had said, adding that his statements will be recorded in connection with cases registered against him.

When asked if the police anticipated any trouble due to his appearance, the police officer said, “Everything will be taken care of”. On Saturday, DGP V Dinesh Reddy said Owaisi informed police that he was undergoing treatment in London and would appear before it shortly.

As part of a further probe into the two cases, notices were issued against Owaisi on January 04 and he was directed to appear before police in Adilabad district on January 07, as well as the Nizambad II Town police on January 08. Another notice was served to the MIM legislator by Osmania police asking him to appear before it on January 10.

While two FIRs were registered suo motu at Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, a third case was registered by Osmania University police, following a court directive after Owaisi allegedly used inflammatory language against a particular community last month. Fresh complaints continued to pour in against Owaisi from Malkangiri and Vanasthalipuram, though no cases have been registered, police said.

Owaisi, who represents Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency, has been booked under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of IPC. The MIM legislator has also been booked under Section 121 (waging or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India) of IPC.

Meanwhile, TDP and BJP leaders held protests at various places in the state, demanding action against Owaisi. TDP MLA Revant Reddy demanded that Owaisi be disqualified for his comments. Speaking at a protest, state BJP president G Kishan Reddy said that steps should be taken to ensure that Owaisi returns to India to face the law.

How Internet is going to change the world in next 30 years

How Internet is going to change the world in next 30 years

The internet just turned 30. That might come as a surprise, as the global computer network seems both older and younger than that. Older because it is such a part of life now - roughly a third of humanity is now regularly online, and its use is so ubiquitous, even people over 40 find it hard to remember a world without it.

And younger because it's still constantly changing, showing us new games, new programes and new fads. Whether it is relaying the latest gossip or teaching us how to do a South Korean rapper's pony dance, our electronic pal seldom acts a day over 13. For better and worse, the internet has changed the world, not least for India. But some analysts say that the changes we have seen in the past 30 years are nothing compared with what we may see in the next 30.

Birth of a Network

Although scientists had networked computers as far back as the 1950s, no one had developed a common language that would allow these networks to communicate easily between each other until the late 1970s. At that point, the US military had realised that because of the wide variety of communications systems they used, their communications networking problems were bad and only going to get worse.

"They would never be able to get out from under this diversity... and they would constantly have to adapt to the future," says David P Reed, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology computer scientist who was part of the group the military asked to design "an internetwork" to bridge those gaps. Reed and his colleagues found the problem an interesting one. "We weren't particularly focused on military effectiveness, but saw this an early warning of all kinds of challenges," he says.

The outcome of their experiments was the Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), the data protocol adopted on January 1, 1983, which made it possible to create a single network of roughly 500 host computers at universities and various US government installations.
