Telangana bandh today, schools closed
Telangana bandh today, schools closed
The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has called for a Telangana bandh on Saturday to protest the ‘failure’ of the Centre in finding a solution to the Telangana statehood issue in the all-party meeting in New Delhi on Friday.
Several schools and colleges in the city have declared a holiday on Saturday in view of the bandh. The Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce has extended its support to the bandh and all theatres in the region will stop morning and matinee shows on Saturday.
Bandh may raise a stink during New Year celebrations
As part of the Telangana bandh called by the TRS on Saturday, autorickshaws will also stay off the roads in the twin cities.
The TRS-affiliated union of the GHMC said garbage will not be cleared in support of the bandh. The non-clearance of garbage even for 24-hours will badly hit the New Year celebrations, as it takes three days to clear all the garbage from streets and bins.
The Telangana Joint Action Committee, Telangana Students JAC, Osmania University JAC and other Telangana outfits have extended support to the bandh.
The AP Auto Drivers’ Samaikhya and the Telangana Auto Drivers’ JAC have announced the autorickshaw bandh in all Telangana districts.
The Osmania University JAC has called for a ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ on January 30, 2013 demanding that the Centre announce the formation of Telangana state.
Educational institutions located in areas surrounding the Osmania University have already sent SMSs to parents informing them about the holiday.
Osmania University has postponed all its exams scheduled for Saturday. Revised dates will be announced later.
Though TRS-affiliated Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees Union leader U. Gopal said the garbage and road sweeping bandh will continue up to Tuesday, it is not clear as some of the leaders said that the bandh could be confined to only 24 hours.
